THE JEAN JACKET

Just in time for Spring. The Jean Jacket. Rocked in the 80’s and never looked back. The jean jacket is something every man woman and child had. This look has come back, but there are some ‘bad’ looks to avoid. If you’re really hip you’re fully trying to embrace the 90’s with the light acid washed jacket and high waisted pants, but I’m not seeing that trend last for the masses.

Gentlemen, choose a jean jacket that fits more like a motorcycle jacket, not a back to school special. Jean jackets by default tend to be very square and boxy. This does not compliment your figure. Choose a jacket that has the size buttons on the back to pull in and taper the jacket to your size. Below are some examples of what I mean by the motorcycle fit.

The jacket I have is a Lucky Brand jacket that I got on sale at a TJMAXX. I like it because of the fit and that the denim is darker, but still ‘worn’. It’s not acid washed and it’s not that brand new dark denim either. This is the look I prefer as it’s a more subdued and versatile look. And I’ve used it as a motorcycle jacket because of it’s cut and convenient pockets. Take a look also at the denim chambray shirt that I’m wearing underneath. I’ve done a post about those and you can find it HERE.

It’s a 50/50 if the jacket you had as a teenager is something you can pull out of the closet and wear today. It all depends on the cut . . . and if it’s been bedazzled. But the jean jacket, like the chambray shirt can be a staple for your closet if it’s done right. You don’t have to break the bank to have a nice jacket, but maybe remove the studding and fringe.
